Witch Creek Fire Maps – 17:30
Same IR data source as before. All of the data is nicely geo-registered, and works well in Google Earth. The one caveat is that this data is all from October 23rd, so its from yesterday. Now some views of the Witch Creek Fire. You will note these are from all over the east part of San Diego County. Yes, it’s that big.
IR at 20:00 Tuesday Oct 23 – Del Dios
Just a few hot spots from the flare up that caused us to evacuate the horse.
IR at 20:00 Tuesday Oct 23 – East Ponchetti Road
Fire is still going strong in this area.
IR at 20:00 Tuesday Oct 23 – Daley Flats
IR at 20:00 Tuesday Oct 23 – Santa Ysabel
This is really where this all started, and you can see that as of last night it was still burning in spots.
Again this data set is from last night, the fire has moved since this.

First of all, thanks for all your fantastic coverage of this disaster. My mother-in-law lives less than 100 yards from you, as best I can tell from your maps, which are magnificent. We’ve been streaming the NBC and ABC TV since Sunday, so my wife can keep track of how her mother and Aunt are doing. The aunt, by the way, lives across 15 from North County Fair Mall (sic?). Their house is okay, and the family is well. I do have one question for you: What is the data source for these new Google Earth IR screenshots? That data really reveals the layout better than the USGS remote sensing stuff.
Thanks again, and congratulations on your fantastic citizen journalism. And major raspberries for your web host. That’s no way to treat a client folks – when you get high site traffic, the idea is to cultivate the client, not turn him or her off!!!!
Spectacular.
By the way, I am blogrolling you now. You guys have done great work. I’m glad our paths crossed.
