CIA Bites Back At Democrats

| May 13, 2009

I actually laughed quite a bit when I first read this article in Politico, Democrats: CIA is out to get us

Democrats charged Tuesday that the CIA has released documents about congressional briefings on harsh interrogation techniques in order to deflect attention and blame away from itself.

Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, said he finds it “interesting” that a document detailing congressional briefings was released just as “some of the groups that have been responsible for these interrogation techniques were taking the most criticism.”

Wise up you ignorant boobs, the CIA is a powerful organization that deals in secrets and the truth. They have correctly discerned that they are under attack from politicians seeking a scape goat for their botched decisions.

If you push them, they will push back – hard. You must not assume that they will take any of your blame, because they are not your whipping-boy.

Advice to the current government, if you want to undermine the CIA, you have to be better at it than they are, and they have been doing this cloak and dagger stuff for some 60 years or so.

It could be said that the Agency has been under a continuous assault politically for the past…. 16 years. First from HUMINT in the Clinton years to the analysts in the Bush years. Its time the Agency got back to doing its job in a political vacuum.

Well put. Things at the agency used to be outwardly apolitical, as in there was not an “R” or “D” on your sleeve. Politics was all about who could position for the good spots. Like so many other things, political orientation started to matter in the CIA. I agree with you that the first duty must be to the truth, as best they can find it.
