Time for a new approach to space

| November 24, 2010

As I’ve posted here before, I grew up with the Space Age and worked at NASA just on the Space Shuttle flight simulators just prior to the first Shuttle launch. I desperately want to see humans back into space — beyond LEO (low Earth orbit) — on a permanent basis. But I also agree with Rand Simberg — who did the video above — that NASA is the wrong party to do it, and that Apollo is the wrong model to follow. In fact, for the past 30 years, NASA has mostly done its best to block private access to space; in that earlier post, I referred to NASA as the Pharisees of space: “But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.” (Matthew 23:13) ..bruce w..
